안녕하세요, Chur Bro,

Hi, my name is Jung Hak Yun (also known as Kevin).

The above is the Korean greeting for hello and if you had not guessed it, New Zealand.

My background is Korean, born and raised in the city made famous by the artist known as PSY, KANGNAM “Oopa Gangnam Style”. My parents moved to New Zealand when I was a toddler and only recently moved to Australia 3 years ago. Hence my nicknmae is the “KOREAN KIWI”..

Sport has been in my life ever since I can remember, picking up my first cricket bat at the age of 6. I thrived on the competition and team camaraderie. I’ve played cricket and basketball competitively and also played rugby, soccer and swimming.

Once I finished high-school, I moved away from the team sports and started hitting the gym. Bicep curls, skull crushers, hamstring curls, you name it; I loved pumping the weights in the gym as weekend sports took too much time away from bicep curling cans of the liquid goodness they call beer.

I was introduced to CrossFit through a friend of mine from work in 2012, who had advised me to try a boot camp ran by Mount CrossFit. My initial thought was, “Is this the new fad?”

I signed up for the boot camp and I was instantly hooked. Just after the first 3 months, I noticed drastic changes to my overall strength, fitness and in addition, my body and eating habits. After getting addicted to this new sport, work moved to Newcastle, NSW where I continued training at CrossFit Attitude.

At the end of 2013, I decided to move to the best city in the world, for a new role with my job and the first thing I did before arriving in Melbourne was research which CrossFit Gym I should go to. CrossFit Collingwood was the closest to where I was living, but thank God it was. The facility is amazing and the coaches were warm and welcoming. I fell in love with the place straight away.

In 2014, I decided to study to become a Personal Trainer so I could help people reach their fitness goals. I have never stopped learning and developing as a Coach and as an athlete and this has led completion of the CrossFit Level 1 Certificate in May 2015 and attending various weightlifting and Crossfit Seminars.

When people ask me the question, “Why do you love CrossFit Collingwood so much? my answer to them everytime is the community. I think the community aspect of CrossFit is one of the main reasons why people keep turning up day to day. It’s not just to train with each other, get their sweat on and encourage other to hit their PB’s; but it’s the coffees/breakfasts after, the friendly banter and just hanging out outside of the gym. It’s a big happy family.
