“Courage does not always roar. Sometimes courage is the quiet voice at the end of the day saying, “I will try again tomorrow.” – Mary Anne Radmacher

  • Favorite Lift: The Snatch

  • Favorite WOD: Fran, She keeps me humble.

  • Musical Motivation: There are sooo many, depending on the WOD…I like heavy metal when lifting heavy and I like electronic beats when moving fast. Nine inch nails, spiderbait, pantera, offspring are a few of my fav’s.

  • Foods: In the summer it’s leafy green salad with chicken breast, walnuts and pomegranates. In winter it’s red duck curry with coconut rice…mmmm.

“When the student is ready, the teacher will appear” is a quote that can be interpreted as ‘when you’re ready, your destiny will find you’, and my destiny found me when I was 8 years old.

My mum was a group fitness instructor and a personal trainer. I have vivid memories of doing her classes up the back of the gym rooms in my pyjamas from 8 years old.

Dad was in the defence force all through my childhood and would religiously work out in the lounge room at 6am Mon-Fri. My parents were my biggest role-models and lead me down the path that would not only save my life, but become my life.

In 2000 I was in a motor vehicle accident. The accident put me out of action until 2003 during which time I went through trial by fire to rehabilitate. All of the therapists I saw for 18 months told me I would never be able to run, climb or move even half of the way I could before the accident. In 2002 I found a private practice that classified themselves as a ‘pain management clinic’; it was here, with the collective help of their counsellor physiotherapist and rehabilitation coach I turned it all around. It was at this time that I also found my love for yoga.

In 2005 I realised that my rehabilitation changed my life forever. When so many people told me I wouldn’t ever be able to move fully and completely – and I was in fact moving better than I had before the accident. I knew I wanted to support people like me; people who were incapacitated from injury, illness or sedentary lifestyles and coach them to achieving optimal health and fitness for life. I embarked on obtaining my certificiate 3&4 in fitness and went to school after work each night. This is where I met my best friend, Josh. From the fist night onward we were inseperable; shoulder to shoulder learning together.

In 2007 I joined the Australian Army and it was here that I first experienced CrossFit. As many future crossfitters can also attest; I was hooked by the end of my first WOD.

I introduced the CrossFit style of programming in small doses to my clients in the corporate sector and saw commendable results. I saw even greater results in my own training and soon found I was the fittest I had been in my life. The fact that I continue to see results year after year, that are not only related to my fitess, but to the health of my mind and body as a whole is what makes CrossFit so invaluable.

In 2012 I had the honour of opening what has become affectionately known as ‘The Ox Box’ with my best friend and partner, Josh Hromis. CrossFit Collingwood is the manifestation of a long-term goal come to life through the creation of a space to support people on their health and fitness journeys.

In 2013 (and beyond) I hope to change the face of Australia’s fitness industry by sharing CrossFit with as many people as possible so they too can fell the support of its community, the positive impact it has on their health and fitness, and the transformation that WOD’ing up each day has on their lives. At CrossFit Collingwood we help you raise the bar and your spirits and I’m privileged to be a part of that each and every day.
