Dan Savage - Athlete of the Month June '18
He was predestined to join the box.... his last name is Savage - need we say more? He has a fun easy going attitude. He brings a laugh to every class. Despite his ability to see the humour in all things, he approaches his health and fitness with sensible ambition and respect. We can't help but give praise to the obvious physical transformation he has made during his training here at The Ox Box, from his weight loss to his pull-ups. We also have a gushing appreciation for the fun he brings into this space and other members. Keep being your Mr Savage.

WHAT ARE SOME THINGS MOST PEOPLE DON'T KNOW ABOUT YOU?
I like candle lit dinners and long walks on the beach. Jokes. I'm a chef by trade, love any excuses to go to the pub, Swans tragic and don't mind going for a ride.... (When its warm) Oh, and drives in the country.
WHAT WAS YOUR FIRST EXPERIENCE AT CROSSFIT COLLINGWOOD IN 2013?
Man, I'm not cool enough to be here.
HOW DID YOU FIND THE OX BOX?
Like all the things in life..... Google
Well, I was a member of a very select and secretive covenant called Anytime fitness. There I would do a lot of nothing oh, and any movement that involved arms or chest haha. Apart from that I've always ridden bikes or skateboarded when I was younger (I was/is terrible a skating).
Favourite moment in my CrossFit journey includes: Losing weight has been a huge highlight. I was always self-conscious of how I looked and would avoid certain situations. Being able to do pull-ups has been a big one for me too! Doing the partner open was a blast. My partner was rubbish though.
Over CrossFit has been fantastic and I can see why people would call it CrossCult. You get hooked. You get hooked on everyone's energy when you walk through the doors, even on the days when you CBF. Also learning to back yourself, and pushing for that extra rep or that little jump in weight or being the last one to run around the block but to have everyone clapping when you make it in as if you came first. It's that constant group motivation that really drives me to walk through the doors and know you are part of a team. Even if you are only really competing against yourself.
Being able to put my boxers on in the morning and not get my leg stuck and trip into the dresser would be nice while Mo laughs at me. Its all about the little wins.
Enjoy what you are doing. I realised that titles and money don't mean anything if you don't enjoy getting out of bed every day.
I would love to be able to touch my toes without bending my knees (this would sound really fucking weird to anyone who doesn't do CrossFit) Lifting some heavy shit along the way is always fun too!
